Parke County Tax Bill Schedule for 2025
Parke County mailed tax statements on April 7, 2025. The spring installment due date was May 12, 2025 (adjusted from May 10 because that date fell on a weekend). The fall installment is due November 10, 2025. Property owners who have not yet paid the spring installment should contact the Treasurer's office to understand the current balance with penalties included before making a late payment.
Indiana's standard penalty schedule applies to late Parke County payments: 5% for the first 30 days past the due date, then 10% after that. Prolonged non-payment leads to a tax lien and ultimately a tax sale. Parke County's 2025 real property tax sale is scheduled for September 19, 2025, beginning at 10:00 a.m. local time at the Parke County Courthouse Foyer. The tax sale process is governed by IC 6-1.1-24.
Redemption of a property sold at tax sale is possible under Indiana law. The redemption amount is 110% of the sale price within the first six months after the sale, and 115% of the sale price after six months. Owners of tax-sale properties should act quickly if they want to redeem, since the redemption window closes eventually and the purchaser can seek a tax deed under the procedures in IC 6-1.1-24.
How Parke County Values Real Property
Indiana law under IC 6-1.1-4 sets January 1 as the annual assessment date. Parke County's Assessor reviews each parcel and applies Indiana's market-value-in-use standard, which sets assessed value at 100% of what the property would sell for in its current use as of January 1. Personal property forms for business and commercial property are due to the Assessor's office by May 15 each year.
Property owners who disagree with a Parke County assessment can file a Form 130 appeal after tax bills are mailed and before June 15. The county Property Tax Assessment Board of Appeals (PTABOA) hears the appeal and issues a written decision. If the PTABOA ruling is unsatisfactory, the owner can appeal further to the Indiana Board of Tax Review. Indiana's appeal framework is in IC 6-1.1-35. Contact Katie Potter in the Assessor's office at 765-569-3490 with assessment questions before deciding whether to file a formal appeal.
Deductions for Parke County Property Owners
Several deductions are available to Parke County property owners who qualify. The homestead deduction covers owner-occupied primary residences and includes a standard deduction plus a supplemental credit, both authorized under IC 6-1.1-12. The homestead is the largest single deduction available and must be filed initially with the Parke County Auditor, after which it renews automatically each year. Contact Susan Kramer at auditor@parkecounty.in.gov or 765-569-3422 to apply.
Other Parke County deductions include the mortgage deduction for properties with a recorded mortgage, the over-65 deduction for eligible senior homeowners, the blind or disabled deduction, and veteran exemptions. A 100% service-connected disabled veteran can qualify for a full property tax exemption. Deduction applications must be filed with the Auditor by January 5 to take effect on the next year's tax bill. Indiana property tax caps also limit Parke County homestead taxes to 1% of assessed value, other residential to 2%, and all other property to 3%.
